Andrea Lötscher
I spent my childhood in Switzerland, Canada and Germany. As an adult, I′ve been traveling through Mexico, Guatemala, Tanzania and Bangladesh. I learned English, Spanish and Kiswahili, noticed the diversity of people′s lifestyles and started to realize how limited our personal point of view is. During my studies of social anthropology (ethnology) I learned to understand the different types of society and their value systems. In spring of 2001 I received my M.A. in social anthropology, history and sociology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (Germany).
While searching for the American Daydream in the summer of 2001, me and my team met "outsider artists" all over the USA. The short film collection about those artists caught the attention of a Cologne based film production, where I′ve been working as a production assistant from April 2002 until October 2004. I supervised projects from the conceptual design, shooting and editing through the finished DVD.
After our son was born in November 2004, I produced, directed and edited the documentary "Verhüllte Freiheit" (Veiled Freedom). In summer 2007, I launched my own company "mondrosen". Since then, I′ve been working on documentaries, portraits and documentations as a freelance filmmaker.
